When I took on the Challenge of teaching Cake Decorating II at Jefferson College, I really didn't know what I was up for. When I sat in the conference room with these ladies the first night of class discussing our Course Syllabus for the semester, we really weren't sure where we would be on our abilities by the time MidTerms rolled around. You see, this was a learning process for me as well. I told my class we would probably cover cookies with fondant for MidTerms. This definitely was not challenging enough for them. We began right in, by third class they were covering cakes with fondant. I was just amazed. Just as a carpenter is more efficient and precise with the right tools and learning experience the same is true in Cake World. By MidTerm, as you can see from previous posts, they constructed a 2-tier cake covered in Fondant. By Finals, they constructed 2-tier Topsy Turvy Cakes covered in fondant. See for yourself, they are definitely something to be proud of!

And, Danielle! I have to blog about her a bit. She really is a star student and really does have a passion for this as well as ability and creativity! I felt so bad for her the night of finals it seemed like everything was going wrong! I've had those same kind of days and been there! But you can just see by this pic she has a SUPER attitude!

Teaching can be very challenging at times. But it is also VERY REWARDING as well. I have a GREAT group of women in my class who all work very well together. I'm so proud of what they have accomplished in such a short period of time. Considering we have been in session for 8 weeks and considering we lost 2 class periods, 1 due to orientation and the other to ice, they are doing FABULOUS!
I want to introduce to you my class I am with every Tuesday and share our MidTerm Class with you. I decided to make midterm a little 'fun' by letting each student pull a "cake order" from a bowl. Every order was a birthday cake, but individual orders told the name of the child, the age, the color scheme, and whether it was a 2 tier round or 2 tier square. We spent the previous week taking care of all of our gumpaste work, then on this night we did all the "construction" work.
